Meet the Midwives

Valaree Hemighaus, CNM
Valaree received her RN degree in Cincinnati and completed her midwifery training at Baylor University College of Medicine in Houston. She was a clinical instructor of midwifery at Baylor University Hospital until 2000 when she returned to Boston to join Women’s Health Associates.

Emily Mather, CNM, MSN
Emily received her midwifery education at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Her undergraduate degree is in comparative religion. Prior to pursuing a career in midwifery, she worked as a mental health counselor in the Boston area. She is particularly interested in labor support, breastfeeding, and the postpartum period. She loves helping women and families have the kind of births they desire.

Sharon A. Mullen, CNM
Sharon received her midwifery education from Columbia University in 1985. She is Board Certified in midwifery by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. Prior to that, Sharon worked for twelve years as a staff and charge nurse in labor and delivery at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She has also worked as a childbirth educator and adolescent health provider.

Angela Rostami, CNM, MS
Angela received her Master’s Degree in Midwifery from Yale University. Her Bachelor’s Degree is in Behavioral Neuroscience from Colgate University. Her interests include helping women and their families through labor and well-women preventative care.

Colleen N. Ryfa, CNM, MSN
Colleen finished her degree in nursing at Curry College and received her master's degree in midwifery at the University of Rhode Island. She comes to us after having a very active private practice at Metrowest Medical Center. Her interests include teen issues, well-woman care, and empowering women to make their own choices in birth.
